Today I sat Jem down with a stack of sight word cards.
HOW
Jem reads, "House." I tell her "ow" makes the sound like in "cow." This word starts with h. Does it say "cow"? She knows that's not the word and we work on sounding it out together.
GOOD
Jem reads, "Goat." I tell her how the "oo" sounds and I point out that she should look at the first and last letters of the word. Jem knows that goat ends with a t sound, so I ask her to try sounding out the word again.
"God damn it!"
At least she's not saying "freakin'" regularly anymore, or I wouldn't feel as righteous.

She sounded out God Damn it. That is some good sight words.
