Moose Tunes for Kids

I just caught myself singing, "I Am a Very Handsome Moose"... again. At least it wasn't "I Am a Moose and I Love My Lips"... again.

The CD has notably become Bug's favorite; she no longer asks for "my music" when we get in the van, but for "my moose CD please." Playing it so regularly, the songs have invaded my psyche. They're too catchy. Dare I say it's my favorite, too?

If there is the opportunity to do a Halloween costume this year, I'm seriously considering being a moose with a cowlick. Then I'd at least have a decent excuse for singing such craziness in public. "A cow is slow and a moose is quick, so how did I get this silly cowlick?" Genius! Maybe mister mrtl would agree to being a cow with a mooselick. Granted, the moose is a boy and the cow is a girl. Get over it.

Mom Mom picked up the bear one for Bug while they were here. So far Bug has had no interest in listening to it.

On another note... watching SNL... does anyone else think "Promiscuous Girl" is the stupidest song ever? And they're making the rounds. I've seen this routine on no fewer than four shows now this week. Whoa, Nelly! W-H-O-A! Be a bird again, please! And make that rapper trying to sing stop, too.

Still holding at 147.5. Hit rock bottom on Monday, spending the entire day eating nothing but shit: diet coke, coffee, "father's day" cake, chips (Bug's randomly remembering that I ate the last of the chips -- "Don't eat the chips all gone, Momma! That's not nice!"), full fat/sugar pudding, ice cream... I felt so sick that night. I put my magic pink jelly bracelet back on. I've been better since then, but will be making The Brownies for a MNO thing tomorrow night (Passion Party, which may make for some good blogging if I'm so inclined).

Kalki's birthday is tomorrow? Damitol. I haven't been paying attention. Is it too late to order the "I'd Rather Be Swimming With Dolphins" bumper sticker? Please don't tell me Baby Poop and Boogies has arrived, too. (I'm afraid to look.)

Parents left today from a very nice visit. Mister mrtl and I had a couple wonderful dates (found good Italian - woot!!), and Bug got a lot of special, individual attention. She finally got to see Maggie the ephalent at the zoo. Did I write about that? How the elephant house was closed when I took her last month? It sucked. All she could remember about the zoo was how the ephalent house was closed, and "how we gonna open it, Momma?" She still believes that she can solve any problem with the contents of her imaginary backpack.

I've got to update the kids' sites. Jem's monthly is late, and there's a lot to talk about there. Pictures are piling up. I think I need a personal assistant. The daily to-do isn't leaving me with time for much else.

How to Throw a Ghetto Dinner Party

Serve leftovers, in this case the overcooked shreds of crock pot chicken cacciatore served for dinner the night before to the same guest.

Heat in microwave.

To set a false sense of class, serve on China.

Candles are a must. Can't find tapers? Use that huge pumpkin spice one in a jar that's been collecting dust for a couple years.

Serve wine. Find a dead bug in one after several swallows. (Luckily it was mine.)

If music isn't readily available, the toddler is good for impromptu performances. Popular requests she'll indulge include the alphabet song and the jump up and down song.

Don't forget the linen napkins. Try not to give one stained from its use as a rag to the guest.

Let the toddler blow out the candle. What will she wish for?

Bwopping, Week 9 Report

147 today. Still no motivation to work out or not eat crap.

Heading to pick up Bug from school now. It's a beautiful day. I think we'll go for a walk.

If I Were Motivated

• I'd get my water. I'm very thirsty.
• I'd blog about such and such and nothing much, like...
  • How I have no time. There's a baby who likes to be held. There's a toddler who needs company in the potty and a nightly bath, more often that not full-service since she likes to play in the dirt at school. There's a husband. There's work. There's a house. Stolen moments are usually spent sleeping, although I have managed to watch a couple movies recently (not counting Cinderella). White Chicks? OMG, I couldn't stop laughing at Terry Crews.
  • Phrases Bug's been using a lot recently that crack us up, like "Say 'damn it'!", "You must be outcho mind!", "Mommy was not patient with me.", "Oh my God!" (and when called on it, "Oh my cheese!" or "Oh my apple!"), and many others that I can't remember right now.
  • Problems with society witness lately, like the little boy who pretended to throw something at the van as we passed one morning, or the man who felt so hostile that I merged in front of him (with lots of warning) that he rolled down his window to flip me off.
  • How the fucking BX lost the swingset that we bought for Bug, thinking ordering a new one was a consolation (after it arrives 6-8 weeks from now), and no one else in Alaska has any decent or affordable ones now because it's so late in the season.
  • The baking I've done lately, like the cupcakes fashioned into a bluebonnet for Mary, the brownies that have made me a Brownie Goddess in my own mind, and Martha's Mile-High Apple Pie (yes, crust, too). Yum! Pictures were taken for this even. Except for the brownies. They went too fast.
  • Bwopping? Last Tuesday I was 148. Tomorrow? We'll see. I've discovered turtle Magic Shell in its 210-calories-per-serving glory, and how it tastes yummy even on mint chocolate chip ice cream. Working out? I can't muster the motivation. Where'd it go? I did remove my magic pink jelly bracelet while Mary was here. Maybe that's it.
  • Fun outings we've had. More pictures there.
  • Forts built, trampolining, baby smiles.
  • Jem starting solids a little early... Here's the start of that post since I have it right here:

  We gave in on Tuesday. Even though the recommendations say to wait till you're four months, we gave in. How could we not? The way you gaze upon us while we sit at the table, smiling, drooling, sucking on your bottom lip and trying to eat your hand.

  • Mary's visit. How she said to Bug, "You're still number one!" to which Bug responded, "No! I'm two!"
  • Daphne's beautiful knitted gifts, the kitty cat and the bib. Bug snatched the kitty for herself.
  • The ghetto dinner party, another unfinished post. I'll post that later.
  • The cruelty of the cannoli-eating contest on "The Sopranos," although I did just find what promises to be a great Italian restaurant in town that said they'd make sure they had cannoli for me if I gave them a couple days' notice.
  • How well Bug's been doing with potty training. We're still working on the night thing, but days are really good. I've only had to pull out the steam cleaner once to clean up an accident on our rug.
  • How difficult it is to celebrate poopy in the potty and keep the disgust of smelling and seeing the poopy off my face.
  • How I've lost my sense of humor, interest in myself. This will probably be a post at some point. It's definitely something to be examined.
• I'd get the dishes finished.
• I'd work on my things to do list. Don't get me started on that.

So Hänni thinks that I'm the one to hit up for ideas to kill a blogging slump. Reverse psychology, or plain silliness? Who knows. Anyway, I'm game. Doubt I'll get it done today, though.
