I'll take what I can get, okay?
My internet went out this morning, in case you were wondering where the hell I've been. As it was, Mom and I had plans to go out to lunch, so we left a little early. The plan was to get Thai (finally!), and I found a restaurant listed in the phone book that was located farther north (the opposite direction from Anchorage from home). I figured going in the opposite direction from the hospital -- risky behavior -- may set Frida in motion. Know what I'm sayin'?
::tangent::
In case you haven't been reading or paying attention here at mrtland, to say that eating out has been "disappointing" would be a MAJOR understatement. My taste buds had yet to be tested by Alaskan fare... Yes, I speak in past tense.
::end tangent::
We never made it to the chosen restaurant. NO - I didn't go into labor. Just keep reading. As we drove up the highway, I spotted a place clearly marked "A Taste of Thai" and promptly took the next exit to get to it.
First Good Omen: This Thai restaurant shared a parking lot with the Alaska Cheesecake Factory, an establishment whose menu I had come across in the phone book earlier and had mentioned to my mother as a possibility for lunch. (What? Does it matter that they only sell cheesecake, cream puffs, eclairs and the like? pshaw) Dessert plans were immediately made.
Second Good Omen: As soon as we walked in the door of the restaurant, my eyes started to water. It smelled so good, so spicy... mmmmmm... ::drooooooool::
Third Good Omen: This one's for my mother, who is a fountain soda snob. They offered canned as well as fountain sodas.
Fourth Good Omen: As we perused the plentiful menu at our table not too far from the kitchen, I heard the distinct, indelible sound of a familiar song by my favorite group. Huh?? Only once before have I heard The The in a public establishment (besides one of the two concerts I've attended), and today was as equally shocking. Turns out they had satellite radio playing. Still. Wow.
We ate, and it was very good. My mouth was completely on fire. Water could not put it out. Can you say, "Nummmy mmmmmmm yummy nummy?" Goodness me. All the way home I was burping up the fire. Afterward we hit the cheesecake place, where the overly, enthusiastically friendly proprietor chatted us up. When I didn't see what I wanted (Amaretto cheesecake) in the display case, she mentioned that she had one of those in the Ididapops (cheesecake on a stick, and it isn't even March 28 -- Something on a Stick Day -- !), only it was covered in chocolate and rolled in almonds. Would I mind that? Stupid question.
I'm still surprised that the treats made it home, a 30-minute drive. It was then that my mouth had an orgasm.
Needless to say, especially now that I am connected once again, I'll be going to bed with a happy heart and all the optimism in the world that tomorrow will be the day. My appointment is right after Bug gets dropped off, I'll be requesting another run with the membrane stripping, and there's no doubt that I'll end up at L&D by the end of the day.
If, by chance, it isn't with true labor, that's ok, too. I have found peace with this process... at least till Sunday. Sunday's my actual due date, and Monday is Hoodie Hoo Day. Monday may be the day I find the balls to try the castor oil. Fingers crossed that I won't have to go there.
p.s. Another great thing today: Big Brother sent me some of this stuff, and I used it today for the first time. Tonight? I DON'T SMELL! Yee haw! Thanks for the recommendation, Dima and Hänni!

Oh man. Thai and cheesecake are my favorite types of food and dessert. I'm so envious of you right now! We have a great Thai restaurant here, but I haven't had a decent cheesecake in years. Amaretto cheesecake...mmmmm. Good luck with the next round of stripping! I really hope it works for you this time.

We have a Taste of Thai here in Redneck Valley, too!! (It's not a chain - just a common name.) It is FABULOUS as well.
I just love when things fall into place like your day yesterday. I hope things fall into place today, too.

Nummmy mmmmmmm yummy nummy!
Huh. I guess I CAN say it. Cool.
Okay. What's the dealio, mrtl? Do we have lift-off or what?! If not, I CANNOT stress enough that the whole castor oil idea makes the kind of sense that... DOESN'T. Mm'kay? Have pity on your nursing staff, would you?
:)
Good luck! (Hugs, good thoughts, and non-debilitating contractions, coming your way!)

So happy to hear about your good day!! "Rolled in almonds" means goodness, no matter where it is stated. (Hmmmmm....the possibilities.)
Have I not preached the wonderful-ness of satellite radio? It is HEAVENLY.
Happy that Hump day is over too!

You have made me hungry for Thai food at 7:48am, AND reminded me that I have to figure out where my The The cds went - they disappeared as soon as I got an mp3 player, and I am sad. I am so happy you love them too!

This week I am traveling for work again and working extra hours (with people around me all the time) so I can't usually comment (especially because of the pink elephants people can tell that NO WAY is this site business related)...
But I am checking obsessively for more news of The Fridinator.

Ha. Would it be okay if it were dipped in chocolate and rolled in almonds. So much in life would be improved if it were dipped in chocolate and rolled in almonds.

Hi uhh this doesnt really have anything to do with what you are talking about but it does have to do with Zachary Soza. I know him, he went to my elementry school, Steiner Ranch. We were okay friends but i havn't talked to him since i was shipped off to private middle school. I remember when (in 5th grade) he would come to school in his barney jacket and all of the younger kids would yell "Mario MArio" I thought i would let you know because yes i was googleing his name to see if his carrer had gone any farther and i stumbeled upon your blog. Although he is not sitting right besides me.
Just thought i would let you know
