I really don't know WTF happened with these cupcakes. The oven worked fine when I baked a couple dozen chocolate ones the day before. I preheated. They cooked for the 22 minutes as directed on the box. They were still liquidy, so they baked for another 15 minutes and this is what I got. Flat and falling apart. They tasted fine, but couldn't be decorated and taken to a Halloween party wih a bunch of people I'd never even met before.
The remaining cupcakes from the same mix turned out fine after 22 minutes. They joined the chocolate ones to be decorated and taken to the party. Since I ended up taking less than planned, I made some cookies to take, too.
Don't ask me what I was going for here. I had watched a Martha where she made fun cupcakes, so taking plain didn't seem like a good thing.

Today on "Martha"
During November, Martha is going to teach us something new, something essential, every day. While making this announcement, she included "how to make a bed" as an example of one such essential. Let's listen in:
... how to make a bed so that it is really comfortable and whoever gets out of the bed in the morning says, "That. is. the. BEST. bed!" That is what I like to hear when somebody gets out of a bed in my house. I'm not saying MY bed -- A bed in my house. ::giggle::
Oh Martha! The backtracking! How do you know someone is saying this if you are not there when they are getting out of the bed? I also love the sexual ambiguity of this, too. "Somebody"? It really is all good, isn't it, Martha?

I'll take the "bad" cupcakes. No such thing anyway. THERE ARE NO BAD CUPCAKES. All cupcakes go to cupcake heaven!

Clearly something was wrong with the mix, not you.
BTW: Those looked pretty damned good to me. Frost them and send them to CT. I'll eat them!

Ooh! I know what that is! It's Madonna (from the back) (with cone bra) soaking in the tub, with her hair up in a green bun!
Am I right? Did I get it? Do I win a prize?

They look good to me ~ If they are going to fall apart the odds are it will do it when you are taking them somewhere.

I can't explain the double post . . . must have to do with WTF Tuesday.

I think it might be Martha's fault. In her kitchenly perfection, she makes the rest of us try too hard and fail, or something like that. Or, it was a problem with the mix. :)

can't comment on cupcakes now (as am at work) but wanted to let you know, NothingLess video is up at the haus. Thanks for pointing out my lack of media inclusion
:)

WOW that sucks. They look pretty good though...you know...edible for sure!
Definitely the mix, not you!!

okay if these cupcakes are going to KIDS they are going to be demolished anyway, so who cares?
Plus they are Halloween cupcakes, so anything goes.
That is my new philosophy anyway. WHO CARES.

I know I wouldn't turn up my nose at them!
The decorated ones are so cute! I really need a cupcake now. :/

Yeah, that first batch looks like something I would create.
The pretty tray of finished cupcakes reminds me of bunnies. Or alternatively sorta like those cone-thingies that Madonna wore in one of her videos.

omg they look delicious!!! I love cupcakes!

Oh man, I hate it when baking doesn't turn out. I have to eat all the mistakes myself (I have my own facetious hat...) ;)

It's that damn Alaskan altitude. Very fickle.
Cute 'cakes. I get funny when I watch Martha too. Yesterday I poked six hundred holes in a pumpkin and then forced mini lights through the holes. It took me forty five mins. Then I plugged it in and IT DIDN'T LIGHT UP.

I think the finished ones look faaabulous. Give the other ones to the hubs & kid. Or eat em yourself :)

Oh, THAAAAAAAT'S just GRRRRRREAT. Now I'm hungry.

The decorated ones look cute. To me they are little dogs.

Those look so yummy....the ruined ones too. Or maybe that's just this HUGE child in my belly talking. Glad some turned out to be good things.
George was the first song played at my wedding:)

Well, that is just weird. Did they taste different? The iced ones look amazing. I wish I had some myself.

Dima - Don't worry, girlfriend; they were disposed of in the most humane way possible. ;)
laurenbove - Sorry, dear. Too late.
LadyBug - Rock on, mah lady!
Nina - Especially when one doesn't give herself enough time for redo's.
Ern - But the rest of the mix was fine. I just don't get it. Must've been a jinx.
Hänni - Thanks! I watched it earlier and it was awesome. Can I stalk your brother?? lol
LeafGirl - Welcome! Really, is there anything such as an inedible cupcake?
jana - You forget that I've been overexposed to Martha lately. That is all.
pea - Sorry. They were easy to make!
Mama Duck - You and LadyBug with your minds in the gutter. hehe
danielle - Indeed they were.
Andrea - It's one of the sacrifices we must make.
amy - I think we need to start planning an intervention for you. That's just sick.
lori - It was amusing to find a plate littered with a bunch of cupcake wrappers and a fork sitting next to mister mrtl's computer. Smart one, that man. (I stole the idea later, giving myself a side of buttercream frosting.)
cat - Get something from the machine then, chicka. You know, with the speed that your brain works, you'll have all the calories burned off in an hour.
Bente - I was thinking more like wolves. Ferocious wolves, making you want to eat them quickly before they get you.
mmc - How incredibly sweet! Which song?? Careless Whisper? Father Figure? The possibilities are endless!
Kranki - Again, won't be sending perishibles your way. blech!
