Got this in email today.
There are 45,000 New Orleans refugees staying at the River Center in Baton Rouge. The PR person spoken with said they would be there 2-3 months.
They are asking for direct donations. She said there are many, many babies and children. She said they need EVERYTHING! She specifically mentioned:
Clothes
Blankets
Formula
Water
Diapers
Non-perishable food
Sheets
Pillows
Sleeping Bags
feminine hygiene products
dog/cat food
toys for the children
cages for animals
snacks for in between meals (chips, peanut butter crackers, etc.)
If you can, please ship a package to:
The Baton Rouge River Center
275 South River Road
Baton Rouge, LA, 70802
Phone: 225-389-3030

Oh Mrtl -- this is so good! The Eclectic children have literally been pining to do something tangible to help. The whole *click* and send money is needful, but less gratifying than packing a box with actual stuff people need and sending it directly to those who need it. Thank you!!! Are you feeling a little better or still feh?

eclectic - 101.7. Tylenol only keeps it down for a few hours. I've asked mister mrtl to get his ass home so I can go to the hospital.

Make sure if you send formula to send the ready-to-serve stuff.
That way they don't have to use precious water reserves to mix the powder.
GET THEESELF BETTER. I'm worried.

We and the kiddos put together Hygiene Kits (through a church group). GREAT family project. I highly recommend doing something like this if you have the time or means, as it help makes it all feel so REAL, and helps the kids feel a little less helpless and worried. Like, "Look, we all take care of each other, don't we Momma?"

I'm worried about you, mrtl.
Please keep us posted, if you can, dear.

Thanks for the info. We'll get busy with it. So sorry you're sick. I hope it doesn't last long, and isn't too rough on you and Bug. And doesn't spread to the A-S.

great suggestion. Even though I was planning to keep most of my baby stuff till the next kid comes along, I think I can spare some things. Hope you feel better. Take good care of Frid.

Hi all. I'm not up to writing too much. I feel like shit. Spent 4 1/2 hours at the ER, which was a waste of time.
Not strep. Looks like flu.

mrtl, could you post this same message at veryzenagain? Or would you mind if I posted it and credited you?
We're looking for information just like this to share with folks :)

I hope you feel much better soon. Much better. As soon as possible. Hugs.

Oh I'm so sorry you had to sit in the ER! THAT's adding insult -- and injury -- to illness, I'll tell ya. Hope the flu lets go of you today. Rest, rest, rest. I'm thinking of you.

Raz, good point, but I was thinking more about the people who are relying on the Red Cross for *every*thing, who don't have houses at the moment.
Glad to hear you're doing alright!!
(And doubly glad to hear that, even though it sucks, it's only the flu, mrtl.)

misfit - Great suggestion. Thanks!
Cat - Yeah, I saw your list of items. You scare me.
Raz - Will do! Hugs to you, too. (Virtual, of course - you don't want these cooties.)
LadyBug - Just posted. I'm feeling a little better today. (Still shitty, but a nicer kind of shitty.)
Susie - Word. T A-S is going out of town this week. Flying with this would not be fun. Should I kick him out of bed?
Mainline - Same here. I may be able to get a sonogram this Thursday and find out the sex. It would allow me to let go of a heck of a lot more if I were to find out we're having a boy.
Amigo - n/a ;)
Sheryl - Thanks. Vegetating with way too much tv... Bug's tv... so she won't be so demanding of me... It's going to take some time to get all the tv out of her system, but for right now, it's worth it.
eclectic - You said it. More of an insult was how they reacted, like I was a moron for going there. I wouldn't have gone if I weren't told to by the women's center. Assholes.
misfit - Yes, being pregnant, much better that it's not worse.

Wait, no! Just to be clear, the Hygiene Kits were for evacuees, silly mrtl! The GO KITS are for me and the fam IN CASE of emergency. Different kits entirely. Hygiene Kits = Service Project. GO KITS = DISASTER PLAN! Still leaning toward a handgun...

mwa hahahaha! Thanks for clearing that up, Cat!
