Getting Pissy

It's bad enough that mister mrtl has to work on a holiday. What truly sucks is being in Alaska on the 4th, where it doesn't get dark here till close to midnight. With fireworks starting so late, we won't be seeing them. (According to my inside source, they aren't too great here, anyway.) They will be close, though, so they'll probably be waking us up.

Bug's at an age where she would L.O.V.E. fireworks. She'd Oooooh! and Aaaaah! and be gut-wrenchingly cute. But we've finally gotten back to a somewhat normal sleep schedule -- something that would help us all greatly when she starts daycare tomorrow -- and not crying over or even asking for her binky so much. I'm not about to mess with that beautiful balance to watch something that's going to be less than spectacular.

There was a time when we could sit on our front walk and have a grand show of the fireworks at the park.
However, in 22 years, the trees have grown quite tall, so we only see the very highest sparkles. I don't want to trim the trees, but that looks like it will become necessary next year.
For some years (like today), I sit inside the house with the air conditioning and watch A CAPITOL FOURTH on PBS-tv. My D. C. sister-in-law was in the National Symphony Orchestra playing the violin until she retired 5 years ago. That was an incentive for the sons, to see if auntie was there.

mrtl, I hope the fireworks aren't too loud! Damn those American swine. oops. Oink oink. That doesn't mean I am pro-fireworks. But I do watch 'em. I'm complicit in this whole dang thing. Sorry about that.

misfit - To add insult to injury, it was Baby Bop leading. It was cute to see Bug start mimicking the dance moves, though.

Weetzie - I'm heading over to read yours now. We have had a great day, hopefully punctuated by a nice relaxing nap before making a run for some flowers to plant. Don't burn anything down tonight!

Amy - Thanks! I'm sure she's more than ready for it. She loves to interact with other kids, and they have so much for her little busy self to do there.

Thanks La Pix! There were some fireworks last night, which makes sense since they're going so late. They didn't wake the Bug. Hopefully we'll be as lucky tonight if there are more.
